STORY
Des is a filmmaker with a strong visual sensibility and a talent for turning simple stories into striking screen moments. With a background in commercials, branded content, documentaries, and short film, he brings a well-rounded understanding of the craft—across cinematography, performance, storytelling, and post-production.
His collaborative approach is shaped by his earlier career as a creative director, giving him a clear understanding of both agency and client needs. This perspective allows him to bring creative ideas to life efficiently and with purpose, keeping the end result in sharp focus.
Des is adaptable, calm under pressure, and skilled at delivering strong visuals in challenging conditions, often under tight deadlines. His work has taken him across the world, with shoots in New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, Japan, China, much of Europe, the Middle East, and of course, Ireland.
Alongside his commercial work, Des directed The Anarchic Hand Affair, a short film for RTÉ and the Irish Film Board. It was selected for festivals including LA Shorts and the Galway Film Fleadh and won top honours at the Huesca Film Festival in Spain. He also directed the sports documentary What We Did Last Summer, featuring the Irish rugby team.
Des studied Visual Communications at the School of Creative Arts, TU Dublin. He began his career in graphic design before moving into advertising with Saatchi & Saatchi, working in Dublin, London, and Warsaw, before shifting focus to directing full-time in 1998.
